While most fighters are in the gym trying to gain every possible advantage over their opponents, Roy Nelson is munching down donut burgers and giving zero cares.

He believes that if he’s the better fighter than his opponent, he’ll win, so that’s what he focuses on. He doesn’t believe that body fat % or lean muscle is what wins fights, so that’s not a priority for him.

Striking fear into his opponents.

Most fight fans were first introduced to Roy “Big Country” Nelson on TUF: Heavyweights, where Dana White made fun of him and talked smack every single day. Lo and behold, Big Country ended up defeating Brendan Schaub in the finals and winning the whole damn season.

"For sure lose my number, Roy."

“For sure lose my number, Roy.”

Roy has said that for $2 million dollars, he would be willing to get rid of his belly. He could definitely make the 205 weight, maybe even 185 if he really wanted to, but for now he’d rather just be himself.

“My biggest thing is I want to be me. I always thought the best part about sports was the bigger, faster kids who were supposed to be more athletic than me — I always beat.” – Roy Nelson, in an interview with ESPN.

Nelson trains boxing with Jeff Mayweather and has a black belt in Jiu Jitsu under Renzo Gracie.

Roy’s hit a bit of a rough patch recently, but he still has an amazing highlight reel. You can check that out, and we’ve also got a video of Roy Nelson in a grappling match against the 155lb Diego Sanchez.

Watch the video:

You’ll notice this compilation video is from 2013. We’re wilfully choosing to ignore the more recent fights, because Nelson is 1-5 after his win over Kongo.

Everyone hits rough patches. What makes Roy Nelson a true gangster is that he’s never shy to speak his mind, even when it’s against the UFC. He’s such a fan favorite that he gets away with it, too.

Roy’s looking tiny here, relatively speaking. This video is from all the way back in 2003. You’ve never seen Big Country looking this athletic before.
