Rousey’s Former Manager Says He ‘Created a Monster’

MMA

Anytime a fighter has a meteoric rise to the top, there’s always some old manager waiting under a rock to step up and try to claim their share of the millions. When the fighter is in smaller promotions and not making any bank, it’s a lot easier to let bygones be bygones, but when you’re the biggest PPV star on earth, everybody thinks they own a piece of you.

Darin Harvey is Ronda Rousey’s former manager, and he’s suing her for money. Like most grown men, he likes to post things like this to his Instagram:

huh

After months of waiting, Mr. Harvey’s wish came true and he got to watch Ronda Rousey get smashed inside the Octagon. And God was there to let him watch, obviously. He said watching his former client was bittersweet, but with an extra shot of bitter, as you can see from the end of this quote from his interview with USA Today.

“It was kind of bittersweet. Part of me was elated and part of me was saddened. The part of me that was saddened was that once I was identified with representing the top female fighter in the world. No longer do I have that title.” – Darin Harvey

Harvey represented Rousey up until 2013, which was the year she made her UFC debut and he feels responsible for getting her to that point.

Ronda is known for being FIERCELY loyal, so for her to dump a manager right when she makes it to the big show is curious. When fighters find new managers after making it to the UFC, it can be because they need a manager who is more experienced at that level. Look at how Ronda has kept the same boxing coach though, so how bad would a manager have to be to get canned? This lawsuit undoubtedly weighed on Ronda’s mind during her training camp and fight, it just adds to the pile of negative things happening in her personal life.

He wants credit for Ronda’s accomplishments:

“I created a monster. She believed she was as special as the press made her out to be. They give me absolutely no credit for the success of her career. She’s not a good person. You don’t forget where you came from.” – Darin Harvey

This guy is probably the happiest person to see Ronda lose, besides Holly herself:

“In a sense it was poetic justice because she’s wronged so many people that were there for her at the beginning of her career. To not be part of something I was instrumental in creating, has been very difficult.” – Darin Harvey
