There’s no love lost between Ronda Rousey and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, who have been at eachother’s throats for years now. In case you haven’t been following, here’s the lowdown:
Ronda says the two can fight once Cyborg gets off the juice, Cyborg says she doesn’t even do steroids anymore.
Cyborg is hands-down Ronda’s biggest threat in all of women’s MMA. Cyborg has also finished her last two opponents in under a minute, and is undefeated save for a loss in her very first fight in 2005, with a record of 14-1 with one no contest after she had a win overturned and was stripped of her belt in 2011 after testing positive for steroids.
Cyborg has been campaigning for a fight against Ronda for a long time, and the response from Ronda and the UFC is that once Cyborg can make weight to fight at 135, the title shot is all hers. Ronda doesn’t want to move up in weight in order to fight somebody who has tested positive for steroids and to top it all off Cyborg has held a press conference where she had her doctor say that she would literally die trying to make bantamweight at 135.
There’s a camp of people that think Ronda should just give up the 5 pounds and meet Cyborg at 140 for a catchweight superfight, and another camp that don’t believe that the champion should have to move up in weight for an opponent who’s been caught cheating and could easily drop the weight if she was just willing to give up some of the advantage she has in muscle mass.
Make no mistake, Cyborg’s a very big girl. Here she is dwarfing a 155lb Frankie Edgar.
Cyborg just announced that she’s going to be suing Ronda Rousey for recent statements. She wants a piece of that Rousey money, but this isn’t the right away to get it…
