MMA

36 year old former titleholder Rashad Evans looks set to retire says UFC president Dana White. “I think Rashad is probably going to retire. I think he’s kind of been on the fence and contemplating that anyway. Tonight might have solidified that.” Dana said this after Rashad was sensationally knocked out in the first round of his UFC on Fox 19 bout with Glover Teixeira with only 1 minute 48 seconds left in the round.

Teixeira was always going to be a threat as he possess great punching power. But not many thought it would end just like that. Even less might of predicted Evans to retire.

Rashad has lost back to back fights since October when he returned from a knee injury that kept him out for two years.

This knee injury has probably played a major part in his decision making. Considering Rashad hasn’t won a fight after the two year layoff.

Rashad said, “Fighting just used to come so easy, so natural. Now I feel I’m fighting against myself.”
“When you’re at this point right now, you’ve just got to reevaluate everything,” Rashad said. “I don’t want to lose hope, I don’t want to lose heart in fighting, because it’s what I like to do. But at the end of the day, something’s got to change.”

Rashad shot to fame with his appearance on The Ultimate Fighter season 2. He won the reality competition and became the heavyweight Ultimate Fighter champion.
