Nick Diaz Invites Female USADA Drug Tester to His Room for Weed

MMA

Nick Diaz is a lot of things. Exciting fighter? MMA legend? Entertaining character? Working class hero? Lover of marijuana? He can do it all!

More than anything else, though, he’s a fly-by-night dude. You never know where he is, where he’s going to be or where he’s been.

In today’s UFC, though, that’s not a very good thing. The USADA deal requires fighters to disclose their location to the company at all times to ensure that they can be subjected to a drug test whenever the company deems necessary. So when Diaz was asked for a urine sample after a surprise trip? Well, you can guess how that went.

After a night of partying, Diaz received a surprise phone call from a USADA agent asking for a drug test. Naturally, Diaz wanted to catch some proverbial Z’s so he could prepare for what will likely be a busy week ahead of UFC 202, where his brother Nate fights in the main event opposite Conor McGregor (and also just just crash after having a fun night) and told them to come back for a drug test later.

That didn’t go over well and you can see the results here:

For anyone that can’t make it out through the terrible sound in the video, he says “You’re going to have to wait 5 or 6 hours, I just got here I want to go to sleep, I’ve been here all night” and then asks “Why don’t you come tomorrow, why not tomorrow? I’ve fucking been out all night I have shit to do this week I want to go to sleep! I want to wake up by 2 o’clock!”

That’s just pretty darn great. USADA has strict rules about disclosing whereabouts at any given time, which read the following:

“As outlined in the World Anti-Doping Code, International Standard for Testing & Investigations, and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) National Anti-Doping Policies, elite athletes who have been identified and notified that they are part of a USADA Registered Testing Pool are responsible for directly keeping USADA informed of their whereabouts. Athletes that have not been notified of their responsibility to submit whereabouts information, are not required to submit any whereabouts information, although the can still be tested out-of-competition by USADA…There are two types of whereabouts information that need to be submitted. One, is regularly scheduled whereabouts filings, filled out online, that are due the last day of each quarter in preparation for the next. As a result, there are four deadlines for whereabouts filings [once every three months].”

Not disclosing whereabouts can be treated as a drug test failure…which is pretty bad.

Chael Sonnen didn't need some fancy pantsy USADA app to fail a drug test. HE DID IT THE OLD FASHIONED WAY!

This story had a happy-ish ending, though, as USADA did eventually track Diaz down and had him submit a drug test…which he then posted on Snapchat!

The good news is that Diaz avoided any kind of punishment for the dust-up. Hopefully this drug test means that he gets back into the cage sooner than later.
