Some people may not know this, but Mike Tyson is known for much more than just being a boxer, a brawler. He is a student of the fight game. Tyson’s knowledge on boxing past and present is almost unrivalled. Not just that, you will commonly see Iron Mike at MMA events. Specifically the UFC.
Mike even said that he wishes UFC was as big as it is today back in his day, if it was, he would of got into that instead of boxing. I for one, am glad it that wasn’t the case, as I have many fond memories staying up late to watch Mike demolish some guy in under a minute in the boxing ring.
Mike’s interest in MMA has lead to an interest in such fighters as Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones. This has lead to a friendship with this pair.
Mike has said what makes Conor McGregor such a different draw to Rousey and Jones, “Conor is very charismatic,” Tyson said to fightersonlymag.com “Jon Jones is bad, but deep down he’s a decent kind of person and very shy.”
“Whereas this guy, Conor, he’s the man. He reminds me of the old-time boxers, one of those guys that’s just into everything. He walks into the room and everybody stands up. He sucks the air out of the room. He’s just a really interesting guy.”
“He does things nobody else has been able to do too. He’s kind of like an animated character, one that’s real though. He’s a great fighter, but his personality is even bigger than his talent. Isn’t that crazy? He’s got this huge personality. Nobody in MMA has ever had a personality as big as his.”
