Mark Hunt Demands Brock Lesnar’s Money or He’ll Quit the UFC

MMA

A lot of different storylines came to a head at UFC 200. Obviously, the event was built up over the course of years. It had the triumphant and then hilarious return of Brock Lesnar. It had, quite possibly, the final nail in Jon Jones’ career’s coffin. Joanna Jedrzejczyk established herself as the best female fighter in MMA today. On and on.

Probably the most important story, however, is the long-rumored sale, which was made official the Sunday after UFC 200. Hand in hand with that is the increasing hostility between the UFC and its fighters over their terrible, awful pay.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this dude could fail a drug test. If Brock can...anyone can.

A number of fighters have begun popping off about fighter pay in recent weeks and the biggest, angriest name in that lot? K-1, Pride and UFC veteran Mark Hunt. The Super Samoan turned his gripes over Brock Lesnar’s failed drug test into a diatribe on fighter pay and, yeah, he’s playing hardball.

Here’s the quote:

“The cheaters get a slap on the wrist and walk off. What penalty or deterrent is there to make them think twice? Nothing. And the [Nevada Athletic Commission], why should these [expletive] get anything? They are not the ones who had to fight with Lesnar or lose [to him]. I lost.”

He went further into it on Twitter:

Will he get his wish, though? Ehh…

Even though Hunt was wronged, he wont get anything out of it.

Even though Hunt was wronged, he wont get anything out of Lesnar.

While Hunt is the victim in all this, and the UFC should face harsh criticism for allowing Lesnar to compete despite the fact that it broke their rules, there’s no real avenue for recompense on his part.

The NSAC will pocket as much of Lesnar’s paycheck as they feel. The UFC will tell Hunt to sit and spin on his gripes over pay. And his brain will have trouble processing it all, since he was punched in the head over 100 times during the fight.

Crappy situation for Hunt.
