Lyoto Says He Knows How To Beat Weidman

Fans love a ressurection story, when a former champ is able to climb the ranks once again. Lyoto Machida got stuck in between a rock and a Phil Davis before dropping down to middlweight and is 2-0 since making the move, with wins over Munoz and Mousasi. Weidman, as we all remmeber, is also 2-0 in his last two fights… against the greatest MMA fighter of all time. Machida’s record prior to that can be a bit decieving, with 4 losses in his last 9, but they all came from elite-level fighters when Lyoto was, agruibly, fighting in the wrong weightclass.

Originally, Lyoto Machida got this title fight as a fill-in for Vitor Belfort, who’s undoubtedly done more recently to earn it, but he has “issues” to sort out in Nevada before he can fight again which likely stem from him fighting elsewhere after a suspension in Nevada. This fight was supposed to happen at UFC 173 but it was pushed back so that Weidman could undergo surgery.

The extra time to train was good, but at the same time it was not,” Machida said in an interview with MMAFighting. “I was training hard and would be ready to fight in May even though I got the offer with two months’ notice, but I will use the extra weeks to work even better and get in there stronger.

Weidman remains undefeated, BUT Machida believes in himself and anything is possible when you believe in yourself.

He has a good wrestling game and hits hard,” Said Lyoto recently. “He has a good cardio but I believe a lot in what I do and in my work. I believe in me.
