For those who are longing to see Khabib Nurmagomedov in action, the wait seems to be nearing its end. The manager of the lightweight champion (up to 70.3kg), Ali Abdelaziz, announced that the athlete has revealed the desire to hold two fights later this year. The information was disclosed in a recent interview for ESPN. Khabib was suspended for nine months of MMA after the confusion at UFC 229.

“He gave me very specific instructions. He would fight in the event of September 7 (UFC 242) and again in December. And if Georges St-Pierre manages to solve his problems with the UFC until April, it’s the deal. He wants to fight in April, “Ali said.

The businessman also commented that the intention of his athlete is to maintain the activity in the division, since there are many quality fighters and that deserve a chance to the belt.

“The lightweight division has many challengers and we want to keep the category moving. He (Khabib) has done this before when he faced Edson Barbosa, Al Iaquinta and Conor McGregor in less than a year “

When questioned about a possible rematch against the rival, Conor McGregor, Abdelaziz was emphatic in saying that the Irishman has to merit a new title dispute.

However right now Khabib’s agent says that McGregor is not even worthy of a rematch.

“To be honest, Conor has to come back and do a fight against someone like Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson or Donald Cerrone. He’s not a worthy opponent right now, “said the manager.

Ultimate is negotiating the return of the Russian champion for September 7 at UFC Abu Dhabi. The idea is to marry a fight against Dustin Poirier by unification of the category title. Poirier won the interim light belt after defeating featherweight champion Max Holloway in April of this year.
