Jon Jones Stripped of his Belt, Rumble vs Cormier Set for UFC 187

Articles

Not the most surprising news ever. Jon Jones has been stripped of his belt, and Anthony Johnson vs Daniel Cormier are going to face-off at UFC 187 to determine who the new Light Heavyweight Champion of the UFC will be. A lot of people were rooting for Cormier to take home that UFC belt when he met Jon Jones inside the Octagon earlier this year, and now he’s getting a second chance. Rumble is no slouch, and this will be an epic bout.

Call it poetic justice, but it appears that the only man capable of beating Jones is himself. His only career loss to Matt Hamill was due to an illegal foul (And perhaps some less-than-stellar reffing, depending on who you ask…), and the man to finally take the belt away from JBJ is Jon Bones Jones.

As of now, Jones isn’t being charged with possession of narcotics, and he’s out on $2500 bail after turning himself in yesterday. Time will tell how he’s punished for his actions. Fleeing the scene of a hit and run where you’ve broken a pregnant woman’s arm (Instead of stopping to help her and make sure she’s okay), then returning to the scene to pick up a bag of money (Once again, instead of stopping to help her and make sure she’s okay) is a bad look, no matter how huge of a Jones fan you are (And we are.)

Let’s hope the Champ gets  the help he needs and is able to sort his shit out, because personal issues aside, he could go down as one of the greatest fighters. Let’s hope this turns into a tale of retribution rather than a cautionary tale of excess.
