Jon Jones Explains Why He Wants Daniel Cormier To Call Him “Daddy”

MMA

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have a strange relationship. On the surface it seems like they hate each others’ guts. They’ve become arch rivals over the last two years and, even though they fought once before at UFC 182,  their rivalry persists and seems to be as bitter as ever.

Below the surface, there’s this strange tension between the two.

Here are the quotes (via MMAFighting.com):

“How am I a bum? I don’t get it. I’ve broken a lot of records. I’ve taken his undefeated record. I’ve won more light heavyweight championships than he has. I’ve been doing pretty well throughout my whole career so I don’t see how I’m a bum. I think it’s funny that he thinks this gets to me.”

Ok, so that seems pretty normal, right? Thinks take a pretty sharp left turn right after, though.

“I’ve been thinking, I remember one of the guys refused to call Ali, Muhammad Ali; they were calling him Cassius Clay. And I remember Ali beat the shit out of the guy and was like, ‘What’s my name? Say my name!’ So I may just have DC call me ‘daddy’ on the night of the fight.”

And before anyone says “oh, you’re just taking this out of context!” no, that’s just the tip of this iceberg. Cormier recently posted a video on Instagram featuring a heavy bag with an image of Jones splashed over the outside which he strokes a little bit before pinching on the nether region. Jones then responded that he’s “balls deep in [DC’s] head right now,” which…yeah, is kind of a little bit suggestive, too.

Jones and DC aren't the first fighters to have things get a little freaky before their fight.

Jones and DC are set to face off in the UFC 200 main event on July 9. Hopefully they’ll be able to work out all their tensions.
