Joe Rogan Talks “Wild Motherf$*@r” Jon Jones and his Failed Drug Test

MMA

A lot of people are still trying to wrap their heads around the idea that MMA may be a “No Jon Jones Zone” for two years.

It stinks really, really bad, obviously. Whether you like Jon Jones or hate him, there’s no question that he’s an absolutely amazing fighter and he’s somebody that we want to see in the cage. There are a lot of lingering fights that fans want, too, like rematches with Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson, on top of the dangling fight with Anthony Rumble Johnson.

Jon Jones' complete collapse sucks for him, sucks for the UFC, and sucks for the fans. Screen grab by us.

A lot of people have weighed in on the scandal, and the latest one to do so? None other than UFC commentator, stand-up comedian, TV show host and creator of weird supplements Joe Rogan. Speaking with Matt Serra and Jim Norton on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Rogan talked about his own personal experiences with Jonny Bones, and discussed why this is just par for the course for him:

“Jon Jones is just a wild motherf—–r, that’s what I think. I think that’s one of the reasons he’s so god–mn good, and he’s a wild dude. I think he likes to party, I think he gets crazy, and I think he makes bad decisions sometimes when he’s doing those things. I think that’s exactly what we are looking at. I think Jon has made some pretty critical errors in his life, and I think this is a big one. Whatever the f–k he took or why he took it–I don’t know. I’ve heard all sorts of speculation.”

For those who don’t remember, Jones had a drug test come back dirty ahead of his fight at UFC 200, which scrapped the card’s main event. A week later, word broke that the failure stemmed from an estrogen blocker. While that may sound odd, estrogen blockers are commonly used by people who use steroids, given estrogen blockers’ ability to prevent the manifestation of secondary female sexual characteristics from the body’s increased production of estrogen to compensate for the increased testosterone (which is to say it makes sure users don’t suddenly grow man boobs)

If Jones was actually using steroids and wasn't using estrogen blockers as well, that censor bar may actually have been necessary!

If Jones was actually using steroids and wasn’t using estrogen blockers as well, that censor bar may actually have been necessary!

So does Joe think that was actually the case with Jones? Well…maybe:

“Some have speculated that was because he was on steroids, and this is what he took to get his system back in order, but who f*cking knows, man? The problem is all these god–mn supplements that people buy from GNC, like ‘Muscle Build 5000,’ and these things that they sell at vitamins stores–a lot of these things have f—ing steroids in them. A lot. A lot.”

Brock Lesnar, who also passed in a failure of a drug test in the days before UFC 200, doesn’t get that kind of skepticism from Rogan:

“He’s enormous man, and he’s such a freak athlete, and he popped for exactly the same thing that Jon did. His situation is a little weirder, though, because you look at him, and you go, ‘Come on, that guy is f—ing clean?!’ When you saw him in the WWE, he was even bigger and he looked fantastic. I think he’s 38 now, so it’s mostly likely he was doing something and he got caught.”

The UFC is yet to hand down an official suspension for Jones, so we don’t know what his punishment will be quite yet. For our own selfish ends, we here at Fight State are hoping he gets a really weak suspension. We want to see Jones vs. Cormier 2, damn it!
