Jason High Hits New Low

Articles

What do you get when you shove a referee after a fight?

You get cut from the UFC, that’s what you get.

(Former) UFC welterweight Jason High has been cut from the organization for lashing out against the ref after being TKO’d by Rafael dos Anjos in the 2nd round on July 7th, 2014 in Albequerue, New Mexico. This outburst is just another part of a long laundry list of strange and bad things happening in NM including:

  • Eyepokes-a-plenty.
  • Curropt or blind judges.
  • Questionable reffing.
  • Drug test controversy.

The timing on this is interesting to say the least. On the same day that Jason High is cut from the UFC for shoving a referee, former UFC-welterweight Paul Daley reveals that he’s in talks to come back to the organization after being banned for life for deliverying a post-fight suckerpunch to Josh Koscheck. In an interview with MMAJunkie, Daley confirms that Lorenzo was alright with him coming back to the UFC and that it was up to Dana White, who is mulling it over. Speaking of Dana White, here’s what he had to say about Jason High.

“He’s cut,” White told UFC.com in a recent interview. “I’m going to cut him. I look at that the way (Paul) Daley put his hands on his opponent after a fight was over. You don’t ever, ever f—ing touch a referee, ever. You’re done here. He’s been apologizing on Twitter, but he’s done.”

A fighter needs to be able to control their adrenaline in there. If you disagree with the ref, you have a couple different ways to handle it. You can express your discontent with words, or you can be like Urijah Faber and stay classy amidst the biggest disappointment of your life. You can, under no circumstances, put your hands on the ref. It happens in other sports and the players either get fined or have no consequences, but those other sports don’t take place inside a cage designed for combat so the context isn’t the same. What are your thoughts?

Should Jason High have been cut over this incident, or given another chance?
