How To Make An Easy Ronda Rousey Costume For Halloween

MMA

Halloween is fast approaching and one of the trendiest costumes in 2015 for both kids and adults is UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.

Warning: Your daughters may decide to just beat up other kids for candy instead of trick-or-treating.

The beauty of the Ronda Rousey costume is how simple it is. Little prep work is needed. You can comfortably conceal it under your regular clothes for the ride home. And heck, half of it is totally fine to incorporate into your actual day-to-day wardrobe. Here is all you need:

  • Form-fitting stretch Yoga shorts (preferably black)
  • Sports bra (preferably black)
  • Make-your-own iron-on kit
  • MMA gloves (again, preferably black)
  • Hair ties
  • Replica/toy UFC title (Optional)
  • Headphones (Optional)

Here’s how you do it:

Step 1)

Use the make-your-own iron-on kit to create decals of the UFC logo for your clothes. Rousey has been wearing UFC logos on her bra and shorts her entire UFC career, and there are loads of variations to that logo available. Just do a Google search and choose whichever fits best for your ensemble. You can find the kits online, at craft stores and at many major pharmacies and department stores.

Step 2)

Apply the iron-ons to your clothes. The UFC logo goes on the bottom-front of the left leg and on the center of the sports bra. If you REALLY want to be accurate, you can add a Reebok and Monster Energy Drink logo to the base of the straps on the bra.

Step 3)

Tie up your hair. Rousey’s hair has been done up in a variety of ways for her fights. Her most iconic style, though, is probably the Leia-style dual buns, as seen in the omnipresent MetroPCS commercials and in many of her other sponsorship gigs.  If that’s not your thing, though, a single small bun in the back with bobby pins on the sides will also work.

While Rousey doesn’t actually fight like this, she is frequently seen all bunned up during ad spots. This is from an old ThrowDown campaign.

Step 4)

Find yourself some MMA gloves. While you may be thinking “they’ll never come to me before Halloween!” fear not! MMA training gloves are often available at Wal-Mart and Target, and should be available at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Any black MMA gloves will do. Official UFC fight gloves will, unfortunately, run you a pretty penny (likely $40-$80), but non-UFC ones can be had for anywhere from $15-$30. And, of course, you could just wear them for one night and return them the next day. Just say they pull on your thumb while doing bag work! They’ll believe it.

Step 5)

Throw on that belt…if you can find one. Unfortunately, fake UFC titles are quite difficult to come by (unless you’re Conor McGregor). They were actually available in lots of stores a few years ago, including Toys R Us, Jakks Pacific, Target and Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, the items wound up being something of a dud and have since ended up buried in warehouses and back rooms. If you’re lucky, you might be able get one, or have somebody dig it out of the back. If not, you’ll either have to try and track one down online or just go without.

Step 6)

You’re done! Go rock it!

There are plenty of variations you could work with here, too. If you’re not keen on an exposed midriff, you could make yourself a Rousey hoodie. If you’re not a fan of all-black, you could for OG, Strikeforce-era Rousey.

There’s plenty of customizability, so don’t be scared, homie!
