He’s BAAAAAAACK! Ireland’s Favorite Son Takes On Cole Miller On July 19th

Articles

The always-chirpy Conor McGregor finally has a fight lined up. The Irish phenom has been on the injury list since his win over Max Holloway last summer, but that hasn’t stopped Conor from calling out just about everyone under the sun. Conor gets a lot of slack for being so hyped up so early in his career, but you can tell he’s the type of fighter who truly wants to put on a great show for the fans and when he enters the octagon with Cole Miller after nearly a year off, McGregor will finally have a chance to prove himself after so many words. The lead up to this fight will undoubtedly leave us with some great quoteables, and post-fight we’ll have some important questions answered.

Is Conor McGregor the real deal, and if he gets past Miller than what’s next? Is he ready for a ranked opponent or will the UFC want to keep building him slowly?

Submission Defense Is Key For Conor

McGregor’s only two losses came via submission, and Cole Miller has more than a handful of submissions under his belt. The road to victory for Miller seems clear enough, get the fight to the ground and work for the submission. Conor McGregor’s strategy, on the other hand, will likely involve trying to keep the fight standing and letting his hands fly. If you  remember McGregor’s last fight, he was constantly going for the take down but that’s because he suffered the leg injury that’s had him out for the past year early on in the fight, and he was very upset about having to fight with that style. Chances are McGregor’ll want to make a big impression after a year of talking trash, and lay ‘n pray never leaves a good impression.

Featherweight Frenzy

Both fighters are looking to leave a mark on the featherweight division, which is pretty stacked the further up you go. With a roll-call consisting of guys like Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes, Frankie Edgar, Ricardo Lamas, Cub Swanson, Dustin Poirier and Chan Sung Jung, there’s a damn tough road before a title shot comes into discussion, but still a few (easier) fights to go to build up the McGregor brand before releasing him to  the wolves and seeing who makes it out in one piece. Not to write off Cole Miller, who’s had a Loss-Win-Loss-Loss-Win-Loss-Win-Win kind of career so far in the UFC, this is a great opportunity for him to de-rail the McGregor hype train and undoubtedly earn some new fans along the way.

So… who ya got?
