Here’s What You Missed at RIZIN FF 2: Kraziest Fighter Ever, Scariest Lady in MMA

MMA

While the weekend’s biggest fight card in the good ol’ US of A may have been UFC Fight Night 95, which saw Cris Cyborg beat the breaks off some woman I don’t even remember, the biggest fight card in the WORLD was over in Japan with Rizin FF 2.

The event featured a number of old favorites for longtime MMA fans with some fun new names and, of course, the signature “Japanese MMA” feel. Here are the important things you may have missed:

Charles Bennett Lives Up to Half of “Krazy Horse” Nickname

Screen by us.

Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett isn’t a horse, but he is crazy. Like, “legitimately fried from years of drug use” crazy. He lived up to the name with a wacky entrance, dancing during his opponent’s entrance, yelling at Wanderlei Silva during the ref instructions (see lead image) and other shenanigans. Oh, and he won the fight in seven seconds by clocking Minoru Kimura with a superman punch as he rushed in. Notes:

  • Bennett and Wandy have had a beef over a rumored backstage incident at Shockwave 2005 where Bennett (the story goes) knocked Wandy out. Neither man has forgotten.
  • There were reports that the two got into a scuffle at the fighter hotel before the fight, and reports that they got into another dust-up in the back after Bennett’s fight. That was more or less confirmed when Wandy appeared later in the night with a welt under his eye.
  • Unfortunately, Rizin isn’t making that fight quite yet because…

Mirko Cro Cop vs. Wanderlei Silva 2 Set

stare

Mirko Cro Cop was the real main eventer, and was the biggest name competing in the first leg of the 14-man openweight grand prix. He scored an easy win over an overmatched Hyun Man Myung by submission, of all things, and proceeded to call out Wanderlei Silva, who was sitting ringside. After a long, drawn-out segment involving both men, as well as RIZIN president Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the bout was made for the December 29 event. Notes:

  • Hyun Man Myung was dreadful. Seriously, you would’ve thought Cro Cop was GSP out there.
  • The fight was confirmed the next day by promotion executives. Whether or not Wandy figures out a way to squirm out of the fight is anyone’s guess.
  • Wandy vs. Cro Cop 2 should be a blast, if it does happen. The two fought back in 2006, with Cro Cop winning via TKO in what is widely considered the best moment of his career.
