Here’s What Happens When a Hockey Enforcer Tries Out MMA

MMA

I’m a big time hockey fan, and I’m one of those hockey fans that likes to pretend that fighting on the ice is unbecoming, and isn’t something that belongs in the sport in 2016. I’m also a fan that totally gets into it whenever two players throw down their sticks and gloves and start trying to pull jerseys over one anothers’ heads without falling down.

But what happens when one of those hockey goons makes the jump into MMA? Well, if Steve Bosse’s career is any indication, the answer is “magic”.

Bosse spent 6 years playing in Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (the North American Hockey League for all you disgusting non-Francophones out there), a Quebec-baased semi-professional league where Bosse worked as the standard goon defenseman and made the jump into MMA in 2007 before making it to the UFC in 2015.

His most recent fight came against MFC veteran and Jeremy Horn pupil Sean O’Connell at UFC Fight Night 89 on this past Saturday…and it was amazing. The two sluggers basically stood in the middle of the cage for the full 15 minutes, mercilessly punching one another in the face. Check out the full fight:

It was an amazing performance by both men, who somehow managed to live through 15 minutes of utter brutality and facial destruction. Bosse got the win, but both men received a Fight of the Night bonus check (though that extra $50,000 probably doesn’t make up for the years they shaved off their lives). It also cemented Bosse as one of MMA’s top action fighters, with this barn burner actually being his first ever fight to make it to the judges.

With the win, Bosse advances to 12-2 in his MMA career. While we here at Fight State might be a little bit biased…we like him in the cage more than in the rink.
