Harry Potter Star Turns to MMA

MMA

One of the stars of the Harry Potter movies has made a radical move from movie star to MMA fighter.

This isn’t exactly a common thing in Hollywood. The only other name I can think of that went from Hollywood movie star to fighter was Mickey Rourke, he had 8 professional boxing bouts from 1991 to 1994.

Josh Herdman played bully Gregory Goyle in all eight of the Harry Potter movies, he was part of Draco Malfoy’s gang of bullies. But now he has decided to try his hand at another art form, that of a welterweight mixed martial artist.

Herdman had his debut last Saturday beating Polish fighter Janusz Walachowski. The event was called, Brad Pickett’s Rise of Champions and took place in Romford, east London.

Herdman had an interview with Addicted MMA, and spoke about his family of fighters, including his father who was a boxer and his two older brothers who also boxed.

Herdman said, “I’m doing it because I enjoy it, but I also take it very seriously. It’s in my family’s blood. I like competing and pushing my boundaries.”

“I chose MMA because I love the sport. It’s raw, exciting and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jujitsu training.”

“I would like a few amateur fights first to get me started and where it goes from there, who knows?”

“I haven’t fallen out of love with it, [acting] I still have an agent and still go for auditions. It’s just a little bit like playing the lottery for a living.”

It’ll be interesting to see the progress of this guy.
