Dada 5000 had unusually high levels of potassium in his blood which brought on severe dehydration, exhaustion and then renal failure. Harris was in a critical condition Friday night. His heart stopped and he was placed on a ventilator.
This could of been to do with the fact that Dada 5000, real name Dhafir Harris, cut 40 lbs in the weeks leading up the the fight. Harris isn’t use to cutting weight, especially not that much weight. It is well known that it is dangerous to cut so much weight in such a short time. There are many negative health implications that can come from such a strict diet.
I’m sure this will bring up the old debate about banning the weight cutting part in these types of sports. It’s well documented how the risks can be permanent.
The doctors feared the worst last night, but Dada 5000 is currently in recovery. He also has a fracture of his orbital bone.
Dada 5000 was beaten by Kimbo Slice in the last round of their fight on Friday night. Mostly because he was exhausted from a tough 3 round bout but Kimbo landed a combination of punches that sent Dada across the ring where he fell down. Harris come in on the night at 265 lbs. There was a heavyweight limit of 265lbs, weeks before this fight, Harris weighed around 305lbs.
