Chris Algieri Faces His Biggest Challenge Against Manny Pacquiao

Articles

Chris Algieri will be the next man to step up and face the Pac-Man this November 22nd in Macau. Manny is a tough fight for anyone on this planet, but Algieri is no slouch either. The New York fighter went 20-0 in his kickboxing career and won several world titles before moving on to boxing, where he currently sits at 20-0 as well.

Eventually, Algieri wants to go to medical school but first he’ll have to get past Manny.

Stylistically, He May Pose Some Problems For Pacquiao

The initial reaction to this matchup from a lot of boxing fans is that they don’t feel like Algieri is ready nor that he deserves it, but he’s been dealing with that his entire career and hasn’t lost yet, and an upset victory over Ruslan Provodnikov only further helps his case. Here’s what Chris had to say in a recent interview.

Manny has a lot of fights and a lot of experience, but the string of guys he’s fought over the last five, six, seven, eight years are all the same kind of guys. I do believe my style is a problem for him. And he’ll be 36. It’s tough to learn a new style or to deal with something you’re not accustomed to, which I wholeheartedly will bring to the table.

The 5’11 boxer with 72 inch reach believes he has what it takes, and that his size and athletic ability will play a key factor in victory. There’s always a point in a fighter’s career where the benefit you gain from experience starts to be nullified by age, until finally reaching a point where all the experience in the world can’t compensate for the natural decay that happens to fighters later in their careers. At 30 years old, Chris Algieri may have the perfect blend of experience and youth.

Got some time to kill?
