Chael Sonnen Says Fedor vs. Anderson Silva Is Being Put Together By the UFC

Sonnen is a rare blend of complete blowhard and legitimate insider. While he is known to make things up and/or strongly exaggerate, he also has roots deep inside the UFC, and has broken (or at least hinted at) major stories in the past.

The fight itself certainly makes sense, and the timing couldn’t be better. Silva is set to come off suspension for his UFC 183 drug test failures in January, and will likely be down to fight by February (worth noting is that the UFC is all booked for PPVs through January). The Spider has previously stated that he wants to return to the cage after his controversial win over Nick Diaz, which saw both fighters fail drug tests, and Emelianenko is the most marketable option by far.

On the other hand, Emelianenko making his 205-pound debut in his return to MMA after a lengthy hiatus seems far fetched. Not only that but, if Emelianenko is looking to make a Cinderella run for the title, he would be better off facing one of the many resurgent veterans like Andrei Arlovski, Frank Mir or Mark Hunt.
