Video: Brazilian Fan Attacks UFC Fighter Matt Brown, Gets Beaten Up and Arrested

Some of the fans over in Brazil were on their worst behavior. When it comes to passion and history in the sport, it’s hard to top Brazil, but unfortunately there’s also a handful of fans that make the rest of them look really bad.

That was on full display around UFC 198 with exciting welterweight Matt Brown’s weekend being defined by physical altercations with fans. Brown riled up the crowd at the weigh-ins by giving fingers the one-finger salute (with both hands):

Unfortunately, a few of the Brazilian fans used that as an excuse to attack a foreign fighter. As Brown made his way to the cage at UFC 198 to fight Demian Maia, he was hit three times in the back of the head by fans reaching over the railing. The UFC seriously needs to reconsider having their professional fighters walk through the crowd like this.

Brown would lose the fight via submission in round 3, but the fans apparently still weren’t done with him! The following morning, Brown was attacked in his hotel by an angry Brazilian fan. Luckily, this idiot got his comeuppance. Check out the video that got posted to YouTube:

According to reports, the man in black hit Brown and ran away, trying to get into a taxi to escape, before getting chased down by the man in red. The man in red, who happens to be Brown’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach, tackled him to the ground and lands a few punches before getting pulled off him. They exchange a few swings after that and yell at one another but the attacked ends up getting held close by security before getting arrested by the police.

Update: Reports have come out that the man who attacked Brown wasn’t just a random fan, either, and that the two have had some kind of history or rivalry, so this wasn’t a random attack on Brown.

UFC 198 was a great event, but the UFC’s security effort were proven to to be far, far too soft. Hopefully they tighten things up when they return to Brazil later this year.
