Boxer Prichard Colon Left Comatose After Foul-Filled Fight

Boxing

Premier Boxing Champions had a strong lineup of fights that night, but the night’s strangest contest, a match between Terrel Williams and Prichard Colon, took a tragic turn.

According to multiple sources, including WorldBoxingNews.net, Colon was rushed to the hospital following his match and is currently in a coma.

The match itself was an odd one. defined by numerous point deductions and questionably legal blows, including a huge two-point deduction in the fifth round due to a low blow dealt by Colon.

Pritchard Colon’s worst night

Pritchard Colon’s infamous bout.

Williams showed that he was no less dirty in the seventh round, however, by drilling Colon with a rabbit punch, which was good for a point deduction of his own.

Needless to say, that wasn’t the end for Colon and Williams, and things would only go downhill from there…

Williams continued landing shots to the back of Colon’s head, particularly in the ninth round. While they will go down in the record books as clean, Williams scored two big knockdowns during the frame that sucked much of the fight out of Colon. Colon would make it to the bell, but wouldn’t be able to make it to the tenth.

This wasn’t due to him quitting on the stool, mind you.

Colon’s corner began stripping off his gloves for reasons that remain unclear. While they may have been trying to buy Colon some extra time, or they may have made an honest mistake and believed the fight to be over, the referee was having none of it.

Williams would be declared the winner by disqualification. That move, regardless of the reasons, was likely a blessing.

A blessing in disguise for Pritchard Colon

Colon was brought back to the locker rooms following the bout and began vomiting and experiencing dizziness. He would then be rushed to the hospital, and underwent emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain.

According to Colon’s family members and training partners, he would then go into a coma. It is not currently known whether or not that coma is medically induced.

Details are still breaking in this story and it’s unclear what condition Colon is in. Check back with FightState for further updates.
