One of the things that made the Affliction promotion is the fact that they lured over top talent by offering them boatloads of cash, but that ultimately lead to their demise.

How’s taste my big paycheck?

Andrei Arlovski made much, much more money fighting for Affliction than he’s getting paid for tearing through the UFC’s very shallow heavyweight division. The Pitbull made over $1 million for both of his fights in Affliction, but in the UFC he’s on a 42k/42k contract meaning he gets 42k for showing up, and it gets doubled if he wins. 84 grand a night might not sound too shabby, but when you used to get millions it definitely stings – even with those performance bonuses he’s been winning. Not to mention taxes, gym fees, coaches, management, and not having access to high-paying sponsors.

Affliction: Day of Reckoning sold 90,000 Pay Per Views and made 1.5 million at the gate, which barely covers the salaries of the main event let alone the rest of the card and all of the other expenses involved in putting on a fight card.

Instead of setting up a GoFundMe, Arlovski’s going to make things happen on his own with a little help from an old friend…

Now that it’s all but official that Fedor is returning to MMA, Arlovski has his eyes on the prize and he’s campaigning for a rematch against The Last Emperor.

Arlovski was very close to putting Fedor away when they fought in 2009, at a time when Fedor was still steamrolling everybody. Arlovski ended up getting dropped in what would be named the KO of the year. Like any true champion warrior, Arlovski wants to avenge his loss, but a rematch with Fedor isn’t bad for the wallet either.

Need a reminder of what happened the first time these two crossed paths? GIF coming right up…
