There are some very weird, odd, brutal and offbeat martial arts tournament out there that make Bloodsport look like a child’s karate class. Most of them take place overseas, but surprisingly we’ll be paying a visit to Canada as well. One of the most exhilarating feelings is winning a fight, but most people will never know what that feels like but they can live vicariously through these warriors.
1. MMA With Teams
The Team Fighting Championship is an absolute shit-show. It usually ends with 3 or 4 guys beating up the one guy that’s left on the other team, or somebody getting KO’d and pummeled for way too long before a ref actually notices and makes it over to them to stop the fight. Check out the full video here. They figured if people love to watch 1v1 fights, wouldn’t 5v5 be like five times better? In reality, it’s just something you have to shake your head at (But can’t look away from, either.)
2. Dambe Boxing
Welcome to the deadly sport of Nigerian Dambe Boxing, where you wrap your hands in rope, dip them in glue, then cover them in broken glass. Fighters compete for money and respect. You win a Dambe match when you knock your opponent to the ground or, well, kill them…
3. Russian Knights in Shining Armor
After a lot of criticism for being in the stone age, Russia decided to move forward to the Medieval age and to introduce caged combat featuring guys in actual knight armor with swords and shields. It’s like a not-completely-boring version of fencing.
