Rollins sustained the injury working a house show in Dublin, Ireland. In a match against Kane, Rollins went for a sunset flip power bomb from the top rope to put Kane through a table. While executing the flip, Rollins came down awkwardly, resulting in his knee visibly buckling. Rollins would manage to lift Kane and power bomb him through the table, but was then helped to the locker rooms after the match.

The knee injury was diagnosed as a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus, and the recovery time is expected to be anywhere from 6 to 9 months. As a result, the World Heavyweight Championship has been relinquished.
