Tyron Woodley was promised a big fight against GSP if he won his title defense against Maia, the winner was set to face GSP according to Dana White.
Until the fight happened. And Tyron won.
Now, it’s GSP vs Bisping again.
Dana White threw Woodley under the bus, as Dana White is prone to do.
He thought Woodley should have finished the fight and was putting on a boring performance. Woodley had insane takedown defense and, granted, played it safe… but after waiting forever to get the belt, why would he take unnecessary risks? Well, to get booked for big fights, I guess, but I digress…
The UFC and Dana White don’t want to give Woodley the money fight because they say he’s boring and people don’t want to watch him fight. He’s had some less-than-exciting outings but a lot of that has to do with style too. If you’re fighting a one-dimensional guy like Maia, can you really blame Woodley for playing it safe and making SURE he didn’t get taken down and end up with a human backpack attached to him?
Either way, Woodley says he’s going to “start leaking some shit” if Dana White doesn’t issue an apology for what he said.
Let’s be real, even if Woodley isn’t putting on barn burner fights, he’s still the welterweight champion and being trash talked by your own boss after shutting down a vet who was on a 7 fight winning streak just isn’t cool.
“Listen, when you break a record for the least punches ever thrown in a five round fight – in a title fight – and you beat it by, it was like 130 [punches] and these guys threw 60 or something like that, I mean, I think that sums it up,” said Dana.
