Weidman Finishes Gastelum After Being DROPPED HARD

Articles

Chris Weidman was 13-0 and on top of the world before suffering three tough KO losses in a row, but he’s back in the win column after his headlining fight against Kelvin Gastelum.

It looked like things might have been over for Weidman after he got dropped earlier in the fight, Kelvin sent him flying with a hard shot that put Weidman on his ass, but the Silva-Slayer was able to regroup and recover in between rounds. He mixed it up between striking and wrestling, but ultimately it was his ground game that won it for with, with an arm-triangle choke causing Gastelum to tap in the third round of a would-be five round fight.

Here’s the clip of Weidman getting dropped, before going on to win the fight:

Gastelum fought great none the less, he came up in the season of TUF where Sonnen and Jones were coaching, and has had ups and downs but the kid still has a ton of potential and could still very well be champion some day, especially if he keeps showing improvements. Gastelum seemed to be conserving his energy very well, looking to rally in the later rounds, but he got his arm snatched up by The Chris and the rest is in the history books.

Weidman called out Bisping in the post-fight, saying that he’s back and clearly looking for a shot at that belt. It’s hard to argue that Weidman will get that shot without another couple wins, since he’s 1-3 in this last four fights, but you never know – craziest things have happened, especially lately, but let’s wait and see if Bisping is still holding onto the belt by the time Weidman’s worked his way back up to title contention. There’s a lot of guys waiting in line, not to mention GSP who could show up at anytime and throw a stick into the wheels too.

Weidman vs Jacare would be a good fight to give either guy a fast-track to contention, but we’ll have to see what the UFC decides to do. What do you think?
