The wait is over, there’s finally going to be a new Dragon Ball series called Dragon Ball Super. It’s already been nearly 20 years since Dragon Ball GT. This new series takes places shortly after the defeat of Majin Buu as Goku tries to maintain peace. Many of the franchise’s iconic characters will be appearing in Dragon Ball Super. This new series plans to draw on the past and what made everyone love Dragon Ball in the first place, while entering into bold new territories as well. It’s launching in Japan this summer and there isn’t a set date for when it will make its way west.
It remaines to be seen which of our favorite characters will be showing up, but there will undoubtedly be plenty of fan service after such a long wait. The cultural impact on Dragon Ball is undeniable, and now it will be reaching a new generation. Dragon Ball has been seen all over the world, with over 230 million comics sold, over 50 video games, and it’s long overdue for a new show to carry the torch. The original creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, is on-board with this new series which is great news, especially amidst such bad news recently.
The voice of Goku, and others.
Masako Nozawa is the voice actress for Goku (and Gohan and Goten), and she’s really excited about the title in particular…
“We’ve always used the word ‘chō’ (Super) withDragon Ballin commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.”
We’re more excited that we’ll get to see Goku going up against an enemy “Even stronger than Buu or Freeza.”
This news comes after the release of the new movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ earlier this month in Japan, which is set to make it’s way around the world eventually.
