When the USSR held their first ever state approved beauty pageant, they decided to throw away international standards of beauty and allow any body type to compete.
“Our event is not commercial. It has an important, socially challenging objective – to rescue women from urbanization, abandonment in the society and to raise the women value in the Soviet society.” These are the words of the Secretary of the Komsomol V.Pankina, one of the organizers of the “Moscow Beauty” contest, held in 1988.
