Rory MacDonald Is Talking About Leaving The UFC

Articles

Scott Coker, the President of Bellator (Their version of Dana White, basically) is talking to Rory MacDonald and trying to poach him away from the UFC.

He built Strikeforce and now he's in charge of Bellator, and they've been doing better than ever.

After Rory’s last fight, he became a free-agent. Going into negotiations with 2 losses in a row isn’t ideal, but everybody still recognizes Rory as one of the top welterweights on the planet.

If Bellator makes Rory an offer to jump ship, the UFC will have the opportunity to match the offer.

If the UFC doesn’t want to match Bellator’s offer, then Rory is off to the promised land.

On the one hand, if Rory wants to be the UFC champion – that’s not going to happen over in Bellator. But on the other hand, maybe it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for Rory to have a couple of easier fights (No disrespect to the welter weights over in Bellator, their champ is a monster, but their WW division isn’t nearly as tough as the UFC’s overall.) Rory’s been in some absolute wars, especially recently. He’s got more mileage on him than his age would suggest, but he could still absolutely make some solid bank and crack skulls in Bellator for a few years, then come back to the UFC re-invigorated.

But don’t underestimate Bellator, either.

Benson Henderson recently made the trek over to Bellator and everyone was talking about him holding 2, even 3, different championship belts at the same time. He went in there as the heavy favorite and ended up getting beaten, so it’s not like any UFC guy can just waltz over there and dominate everybody.

Newly crowned champ Eddie Alvarez is a good example, he came over from Bellator and managed to beat one of the most dangerous guys in the UFC in RDA.

Either way, no matter where Rory is fighting, the fans win. After his fight with Robbie, Rory said it was the best night of his life. The kid’s a savage, and we’ll be watching his next fight either way.
