Popular UFC Fighter Josh Samman Has Passed Away After Being In Coma

It’s with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Josh Samman, who fought for the UFC.




Samman was a very well-liked fighter, who had strung together a 3-fight win streak for the UFC that included two Performance of the Night bonuses.

Samman was on his way to hitting the prime of his career, training for a fighter to redeem himself after a couple tough losses. It’s been a tough patch for Josh, who lose his girlfriend in 2013 in a car accident. On September 30th, Josh was found unresponsive in his apartment. After nearly a week in a coma, he has passed on.

Josh was also a writer. He was a regular contributor to Bloody Elbow, UFC.com, and he wrote a book detailing his career as a fighter, the loss of his girlfriend, and personal demons he has battled with outside of the Octagon.

Josh Samman was only 28 years old, and a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts after a strong performance on The Ultimate Fighter.

It has been a terrible year for fighters passing. Josh joins Kimbo Slice, Kevin Randleman, Ryan Jimmo, Jordan Parsons and Joao Carvalho.

“It is with a heavy heart that the family of Joshua Samman, well known professional mixed martial artist, promoter and author have announced his passing this morning at 7:20 a.m. at Regional Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. He was 28 years old.

“The cause of death has yet to be determined pending an autopsy. The family asks that Josh’s privacy be respected and that everyone continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time.”

Initial speculation on the internet was that Josh had suffered an overdose. His mother released a statement that no heroin was found. The family will be releases a statement shortly, and we echo their request that people avoid any speculation, and respect their privacy.
