8 Things That Made Metamoris 4 Awesome

Articles

Metamoris 4 took place on Saturday, August 9th.  If you missed it, you can catch the reply on their website or sit tight until Metamoris 5 rolls around because it’s sure to be a great show as well.

Here are 8 things that made it great…

1 –  The live drums for entrance music were a very cool touch, and the way they would get louder and more intense based on what was happening in the match was almost as exciting as hearing Rogan yell “HE’S HURT!”

2 – The mystery match idea added another level of suspense, and there couldn’t have been a more exciting guy to face Baret Yoshida than Jeff Glover, who was one of the commentators of the event alongside Kenny Florian. You could tell Florian was genuinely surprised when his co-commentator was announced to participate in the mystery match.

3 – It still has a real “homemade” feel to it, they kind of do whatever they want at Metamoris. The blooper real in between matches, the per-recorded skits, letting the matches run longer…

4 – One 20 minute round with no points can make for much more exciting matches, because unlike some events, you won’t have someone handily win the first couple of rounds just to coast their way to the end – so everyone’s got to go all out.

5 – Seeing Chael compete against BJJ World Champion Andre Galvao isn’t quite what fans were hoping for during his tenure as coach on The Ultimate Fighter that was supposed to climax with an epic grudge match between Chael and Wanderlei Silva, but it’s not a bad consolation prize either.

6 – The ref would let some of the matches go on for another minute or two if they were in an interesting position. This is something that’s really cool about these unsanctioned events, that you would never see happen in the UFC.

7 – Josh Barnett. Enough said.

8 – The UFC connections. The place was filled with familiar mma faces including Bruce Buffer, Anderson Silva, and competitors Chael Sonnen, Josh Barnatt and Vinny Magalhaes.
