Mayhem Miller Misses Weight by 24 Pounds, Loses Title Shot, Gets New Opponent

MMA

The steady downward spiral of Jason “Mayhem” Miller continued on Friday at Venator FC 3’s weigh-ins when Miller hit the scales a bit heavy for his title fight with UFC castoff Luke Barnatt. And by “a bit heavy” I mean he came in 24 pounds over the weight limit.

Miller, who was supposed to be facing Barnatt for the inaugural Venator FC 185-pound title, weighed in at a whopping 209 pounds. That’s right, Miller who was supposed to be fighting AS A MIDDLEWEIGHT, weighed in at the 206-265 pound range OF A HEAVYWEIGHT. While it sounds ludicrous, it’s not all that shocking for Miller.

Since getting cut from the UFC in 2012, Miller has been on steady downward spiral in his life, getting arrested multiple times for a number of different charges and generally going insane on the biggest stages possible.

Despite his troubles out of the cage, he was signed to ridiculous Italian promotion Venator, who brought in fellow troublesome former UFC fighter Rousimar Palhares. There was a shred of hope that Mayhem returning to MMA may result in him returning to his old, fun-loving ways, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Miller has been making himself look bad at every opportunity.

Despite coming in way too heavy, Miller remains on the card and will face Mattia Schiavolin in a light heavyweight fight on the condition that Miller does not weigh in over 207 pounds on fight night. Barnatt, meanwhile, will face Stefan Croitoru in the middleweight title bout.

Schiavolin has decent 12-2 record, but lost to Barnatt at Venator FC 2, getting submitted in the fourth round. How Miller performs in this fight will go a long way towards determining if he has anything left in the fight game. If he can’t beat the ho-hum Italian middleweight, it just doesn’t seem like there’s much left for him.
