Kim Jong-Un Wants To Create Surf Tourism By Opening Up North Korea Amazing Waves To The World

No this is not a joke, the leader of the hermit kingdom Kim Jong Un just launched an eight day expedition to explore potential tourist surfing areas.




He enlisted Italian surfing champion Nicola Zanella to provide expertise for this initiative.

Their goal is to make North Korean beaches one of the number one surfing destinations in the world. It has long been theorized by adventurous surfers that the beaches of North Korea might hold one of the last uncrowded treasures of waves on earth due to forecasting data as well as some promising satellite photos that show favorable swell.

The officially sanctioned government tour begins in Pyongyang and will be led by Andrea Lee, who leads the US-based Uri Tours claiming that the response so far has been ‘overwhelming and encouraging’, and that they have been contacted by surfers all over the world.

“Most of the people I met at the public beaches were factory workers or farmers who were visiting for the day. There are fisherman working along the coast too, but they don’t live at the beach.

Korea may be a peninsula but watersports isn’t part of tradition. But if North Korea wants surfers, they’ll certainly assign that challenge to their young athletes so that they’re catching waves by September.”
