Georges St-Pierre Wants To Fight Michael Bisping For His Comeback

Articles

Bisping has been trying to get himself some big money fights ever since winning the middleweight belt from Luke Rockhold. Bisping tried to re-ignite his rivalty with Dan Henderson, claiming that he wants his first title defense to be against Hendo. The two first crossed paths at UFC 100, and most recently the pair both earned impressive wins at UFC 199. A rematch, in the grand scheme of things, doesn’t really make sense as far as the title picture is concerned – but who wouldn’t want to see it?

There’s another guy who was on that UFC 100 card that Bisping wouldn’t mind throwing down with, and that’s GSP, who retired after his fight against Johny Hendricks.

Michael Bisping said that GSP’s team has reached out to him in order to test the waters and see if Bisping would be interested in fighting Georges. It’s a step up in weight for GSP, who has been on the sidelines for quite a while, but if anyone can come back after a long break during which he injured his ACL, and to move up a weight class to beat the champion, it’s Canada’s favorite son.

Bisping ha also said “When you’re a champion, you get to call the shots. My next fight is going to be at Manchester.”

It’s hard to imagine GSP’s comeback not being somewhere like The Air Canada Center in Toronto, where he has set attendance records in the past, and something tells us that it would be Georges who is calling the shots, even thought Mike is champ.

“I actually had some people reach out to me and say ‘Georges St-Pierre is interested in fighting you’,” Bisping said on Fox Sport’s Jay and Dan (via BloodyElbow). “Yes, some people from his camp. I was like ‘Really, wow. Okay.'”

“Tell him to sign the dotted line, just like (what I said about Dan) Henderson, if he really wants to come out of retirement.”

If GSP wasn’t interested in this fight, then there’s no way he would have his representatives reaching out to Bisping’s camp. It’s all rumors right now until we hear it from GSP himself, and it’s always possible that Michael Bisping is just making this up to try to force St. Pierre’s hand, but Occam’s Razor would dictate that everyone involved is trying to make this fight happen for real.

The Count wants a lot more cake in his life, so he’s open to big fights.

A lot of fans wouldn’t mind if GSP just stayed retired, it’s rare for a great one to go out on top. But at the same time, it would be awesome to see Georges come back for fights that aren’t all that dangerous to him. He’s talked about losing time, and having terrible migraines, so it might not be the best idea to make a return if he’s still experiencing those things. As fans, we have to remember these are real people who can suffer long term damage for our entertainment, and we can’t be selfish.
