After an early onslaught in which Fedor just about finished Fabio during the first 20-30 seconds (The commentators even declared that the fight would be over), the tides turned and the rest of the first round was was just a huge display of heart from Fedor. He ate punch after punch after punch, but stayed in it and managed to make it to the second round. It’s hard to imagine that this fight wouldn’t have been stopped under different circumstances. The entire crowd was on their feet as Fedor relied on nothing but pure instincts and toughness to keep him in the fight.

People thought this fight would be an easy win for Fedor, but Maldonado (the huge underdog) had other plans.

After Fedor landed some heavy knees to Fabio’s head against the cage, things started to shift back into The Last Emperor’s favor, which lead into a nice head kick and Fedor continuing to control the center of the cage.

Round 2 saw Maldonado slow down on his attacks, either he hurt himself or he’s trying to conserve his energy, and this gave Fedor a chance to open up more…

Maldonado landed a nice shot to start the 3rd round, followed by some back and forth by both fighters until Fedor got him up against the cage and the pair started trading shots. The majority of the fight was standing, even thought Fedor has a much better ground game than Maldonado, who spent most of his fighting career as a boxer.

Fedor has turned into a headhunter recently, and forgot about his wrestling, which could have had him dominating this fight since Maldonado is known for poor wrestling and ground game.

The fight went the distance, the first two judges had it scored as a draw, and the final judge decided the winner…
