Daniel Cormier Gets Title Shot Against Jon Jones At UFC 178

Articles

After his dominant win over Dan Henderson, Daniel Cormier said he’s happy to sit around and wait for his title shot. The Olympic wrestler, who’s never lost so much as a round in the UFC, is going to get his wish at UFC 178 where he’ll step in to replace an injured Alexander Gustafsson. A lot of people were hoping for this fight from the get-go, not that Gus didn’t deserve the rematch. This is a very compelling fight, and it definitely won’t hurt PPV buys at all. This entire card is stacked from top to bottom so far, including McGregor vs Poirier, the return of Dominic Cruz, the return of Cat Zingano and plenty more great fights, with more yet to be confirmed.

Two Perfect Records on The Line

For all intents and purposes, Jon Jones is undefeated despite what the records say. Most people don’t consider his sole loss to Matt Hamill to be a real loss, it was a weird situation with some very questionable reffing. Cormier, on the other hand, is undeniably undefeated but will he still be undefeated after September? Make your predictions in the comment section below – who’s going to win this one?

The Bee’s Knees

Elephant in the room. Cormier had talked about having knee surgery in June, which he had been putting off for a while. Jones loves to go after the knees and to hyper-extend his opponents knees, which seems like it would be a big weakness for Cormier – or maybe that would open up JBJ to the inevitable takedown attempts?

No matter how you slice it, this is going to be a great fight. If the rest of the fighters can stay injury-free (knock on wood) we’re looking at what has the potential to be the biggest card of the year.
